A mindful wardrobe starts with mindful habits – and it’s never too early to start.
At Our Little Wardrobe, we believe in fashion that’s kind to both children and the planet. One of the most powerful things we can do is teach our little ones to think sustainably from a young age – and what better place to start than with the clothes they wear every day?

START WITH A CONVERSATION
“Do you know where your clothes come from?”
Help your child understand that clothes aren’t just things that appear in drawers – they’re made by people, from materials that come from nature. Talk about how some clothes are made quickly and wastefully, while others are made to last and to love.
Show the Joy of Pre-Loved
“This dress has a story!”
Explain that second-hand clothes aren’t second-best – they’re pre-loved! Kids love stories, so turn pre-loved fashion into a mini adventure. Who might have worn it before? Where did it travel?
Make it fun: let them pick their own outfit from a pre-loved shop or swap clothes with friends. Involve them in choosing what to donate, too.
Repair, Don’t Replace
“Let’s fix it together!”
A rip doesn’t mean the end. Teaching kids simple mending skills – like sewing a button or adding a patch – helps them see the value in keeping things. It’s a great hands-on way to build confidence, creativity, and responsibility.

Create a ‘Season Switch’ Ritual
“What fits, what’s too small, what can we pass on?”
At the start of each season, go through their wardrobe together. Make three piles: keep, donate, resell. Talk through why it’s better to share clothes that no longer fit, rather than throw them away.
It’s About Progress, Not Perfection
Teaching sustainability isn’t about making them eco-experts overnight. It’s about small moments, meaningful conversations, and leading by example. At Our Little Wardrobe, we’re proud to be part of that journey – one outfit at a time.
Warm wishes,
